A Gathering Space, a project by award winning architect Gareth Hoskins was Scotland’s first stand-alone pavilion at the International Architecture Biennale, Venice in 2008, produced and curated by Patricia Fleming.
Located opposite the famous Santa Lucia train station on the grand canal in the heart of Venice, the stepped structure attracted visitors from all areas of the globe; architects, designers, locals and visitors to the City were drawn to the showcase for Scottish design and architecture.
2008 marked the 11th presentation of the Architectural Biennale, attracting over 130,000 visitors including global institutions and architects to the numerous exhibits from countries from all over the world. An events programme profiled Scottish talent and international architectural practices. A Gathering Space was host to key debates from speakers including: Charles Jenks, Zaha Hadid and David Page, as well as being a venue for workshops and social events during the preview days of the Biennale 11-13 September 2008.
